Cabrillo’s Aldridge plays in Vegas
Cabrillo High School varsity softball player Kiley Shae Aldridge is currently in Nevada competing in a national softball tournament.
Aldridge is playing for the Fresno Force, who are playing in the 18U ASA National Championships in a very hot Las Vegas. Over 140 teams from all over the country are competing.
Pool play began on Monday and the championship bracket will be determined after the four-team pools are completed.
In their first game Monday, the Force fell to the Illinois Thunder 10-3. The playing conditions were brutal with tempuratures reaching 116 degrees during the noon game.
With the Thunder leading 5-0 in the fourth, the game was delayed for a half-hour when an umpire suffered heat exhaustion and a replacement was located.
The Force scored three runs in the sixth inning, which was the last inning due to the time limit.
The team rebounded Tuesday, defeating the Jersey Intensity Black 11-5 to finish third in their pool.
The championship bracket begins play today.
