The Cabrillo grad finished last year as one of the top prospects in the mid-minors, leading the KC Royals GM to predict that Duffy would start this season with the Class A Wilmington (N.C.) Blue Rocks, as MSN Newswire reported -
"KANSAS CITY, MO - In an online chat through the team’s website on Tuesday, December 2, Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore stated the names of two likely players for the 2009 Wilmington Blue Rocks - Mike Moustakas and Daniel Duffy."
The Newswire continues:
"Along with Moustakas, Duffy was one of three Burlington Bees named a Top 20 prospect in the Low-A Midwest League by Baseball America in 2008. A southpaw starter, Duffy went 8-4 with a 2.20 ERA over 17 nods, striking out 102 men against 25 walks over 81.2 IP. The 19-year-old held the league to a .193 average and posted a 1.16 ERA over his last 14 starts after a shaky start to his season. Despite his left-handed nature, his splits were nearly even in effectiveness as his fellow southpaws batted .192 against him while right-handers hit a collective .194."
